SEMICON Europa: Agenda & event line-up
With numbers surging past the 2018 benchmark, SEMICON Europa promises to bring over 300 exhibitors, 80,000 attendees, dozens of seminars, presentations, demos, and keynotes into the one event for a jam-packed gathering of the industry’s top talent and innovators. Here are a few things we're looking forward to at this year's smart tech event.
We’re now in the final week of preparation and planning for the upcoming SEMICON Europa event taking place at Messe München in Munich. We would be lying if we didn’t say we were extremely excited about this.
It’s Europe’s largest networking and innovation showcase bringing together manufacturers and technology designers from every corner and edge of the industry – and enabling them to highlight the latest and greatest developments and executions in smart technology.
This year’s theme brings smart technology into the spotlight with 4 segments of focus – smart technology, smart medtech, smart design, and smart workforce.
With numbers surging past the 2018 benchmark, SEMICON Europa promises to bring over 300 exhibitors, 80,000 attendees, dozens of seminars, presentations, demos, and keynotes into the one event for a jam-packed gathering of the industry’s top talent and innovators.
After scouring the published agenda, we’d like to share with you the things we’re most excited about seeing at SEMICON Europa 2019.

It’s no secret that Moore’s Law has underpinned the advances in computing and microelectronics for the last 50 years. However, the industry has seen an emergence of challenges faced by Moore’s Law and the manufacturing infrastructure limitations experienced by innovators at the forefront of technology disruption. This session promises to deep-dive into these challenges and examine ongoing research and development into providing solutions for the advanced technology manufacturing industry.
From the published agenda: “This session will showcase a selection of some of the key European collaborative research projects under the control of the European Commission (H2020), ECSEL Joint Undertaking and PENTA/CATRENE. Projects of notable interest would include the current and pending FET (Future Emerging Technology) Flagships and KET (Key Enabling Technology) Pilot Lines.”

Showfloor - TechARENA 2, Hall B1
As technology ingrained into our work and personal lives, there is an exorbitant amount of data that is created, collected, processed, stored, and shared on a constant basis.
With data volume expected to double every two years for the next decade, hitting 45,000 exabytes in 2020, it has become apparent that conventional data storage solutions won’t match the growing demand for storage size, transfer speed, and computational power.
As such, many developers are building applications that process data at a localised level – moving activity from the cloud to the edge down to the end device. Through advancements in quantum technologies as well as artificial neural networks, and neuromorphic computing, we’ll see systemic efficiency alongside stark improvements in power consumption, processing speed, and storage limits.
The Disruptive Computing session features a panel of quantum computing experts demonstrating the recent advancements in machine learning within a data processing context.

Showfloor - TechARENA 2, Hall B1
Increasing worldwide demand for electronics means growth opportunities for electronics manufacturers. In parallel with other manufacturing industries, this huge potential comes with environmental, health and safety challenges. To combat this, the European Union and other jurisdictions are putting in force comprehensive EHS regulations that mean advanced manufacturers must take responsibility for their contributions to the environmental economy.
From the published agenda: “Advanced manufacturers are now transforming their business models under the principles of circular economy. The circular economy model moves from the traditional take-make-waste practice and aims to keep materials, components, products and waste useful and valuable at all phases.”
“Circular economy requires the electronics manufacturing supply chain to connect, collaborate and innovate more than ever. The session will shed light upon the EHS challenges facing the electronics manufacturing sector and draw paths of policy and business action for the future.”
12 November 2019 | 10:00 - 18:30
Showfloor - Hall B2 (Inspiration Hub)
One for students, the SMART Workforce Inspiration Hub will showcase how innovations in microelectronics transform leadership and enable solutions to global challenges. Students will also have a chance to explore career opportunities with the world’s most advanced technology designers and manufacturers in the semiconductor industry.
On the SMART Workforce agenda are several discussion panels:
- Navigating Success in a Volatile, Uncertain, Complex and Ambiguous World
- Excelling as a Career Starter
- How the Semiconductor Industry Enables Sustainable Development
- How the Internet of Things is Helping Solve Global Challenges
- Semiconductor Manufacturing: Enabling the Data Revolution
- Diversity and Inclusion for High Performance Teams
- Leading in the Digital Age: How Technology is Reshaping Leadership
