Moving from the defense and medical electronics industry to the semiconductor manufacturing industry

Darrell sought a new opportunity after finishing his career in the defense and medical electronics industry. After joining the Retronix Semiconductor team, he impressed our customer and became a direct-hire employee.

Moving from the defense and medical electronics industry to the semiconductor manufacturing industry

I worked with Retronix Semiconductor for just under a year as an FSE at in Chandler, Arizona. Prior to joining them, I had recently suspended a long and satisfying career in Electrical Engineering at world-class organizations for both Defense and Medical Devices. My goal was to engage in an area of the industry that I’d been associated with, but not involved in, i.e. semiconductor manufacturing. I found Retronix Semiconductor through my search for follow-on employment and felt that the position would provide a fulfilling application for my background and skillset. Luckily, they agreed!

The position at Retronix Semiconductor provided deep exposure to semiconductor fab operations and startup activities. The assignment afforded broad-based experience focused on tooling installation and project management. This was exactly what I was looking for! Although I already had engineering credentials, what surprised me was that after spending time with Retronix Semiconductor in my assignment I found that the semiconductor fab exposure opened up a “whole new world” of opportunity. This key positioning inside a major fab has given me – in a very short time – a completely new skillset that is much more broadly applicable than those that took me decades to acquire! I can thank Retronix Semiconductor for that.

The management team has been a pleasure to work with. The teams deployed into the facility are carefully selected and mesh well together.

For sure, I’d say on a 1 to 5 scale, my experience with Retronix has been a solid 4.

I am grateful for the time and experience that has been provided and, ironically, it’s that experience that has contributed to my leaving to join the customer’s team full-time. I would encourage anyone looking to build a career in the semiconductor industry to look very closely at the offerings Retronix Semiconductor has available.

This is an update to Darrell’s original testimonial published in October 2018. The original testimonial is posted below. If you’re interested in sharing your own experiences of working with Retronix Semiconductor, get in touch at media@retronix.com for more information.

Darrell sought a new opportunity after finishing his career in the defense and medical electronics industry. After joining the Retronix Semiconductor IQ Technician team, he was promoted to a lead role within 2 short months!

I enjoyed a satisfying career in defense and medical electronics as a Test and Product Engineer. Transitioning out of that career left a void and I began looking for a challenging role in a technical environment. I saw a Retronix Semiconductor ad for Manufacturing Technicians at a major local Wafer Fab.

After some research, I accepted the position to work with the IQ Technician team and have now found that the job is far more rewarding than I had expected. The position offers deep exposure to and experience in key aspects of state-of-the-art semiconductor facility infrastructure.

Although I didn’t seek it out, local Retronix management also recognized my background and promoted me into a lead role just two months after I started! They were very accommodating in working with me to establish a schedule that fit both my and the company’s needs.

The management team goes the extra mile to leverage strengths of available staff and allocate resources effectively.

Retronix Semiconductor offer experience in key positions, at world-class facilities allowing individuals to build critical skills that are highly marketable in the technical job market. I would not hesitate to recommend the company for candidates looking to establish a career path – or to broaden existing personal skill sets.
