How I gained experience in the semiconductor industry with Retronix

I work as an “L1 Technician” with Retronix Semiconductor based at the Ireland site in Leixlip. I have been working for Retronix Semiconductor since July after hearing about them from a family member who works there.

I am planning to do a degree in science and engineering and wanted to gain experience in the semiconductor industry. Working with Retronix Semiconductor has given me this experience and the opportunity to get familiar with working in a cleanroom environment during a period of large-scale manufacturing.

I would rate my experience as a 5. So far, my experience has been very positive, some specific points include:

  • The practical training on the use of PGVs was very good, it ensured we were well prepared before we entered the manufacturing environment.
  • Safety and protocol expectations were explained very clearly.
  • Recruiters were very friendly and always available to answer questions.
  • Shift supervisors are approachable, fair and have good people management skills.

The advice I would give to someone looking to apply for a role with Retronix Semiconductor would be to go for it.

They have professional staff, and good people management skills of the supervisors allowed for a good team environment. Clear expectations are outlined with sufficient training to ensure you are prepared to do a successful job.

As with any job at a high-volume manufacturing site ‘tolerance of ambiguity’ is important as business needs can change very quickly and you need to be prepared to be flexible with your shift pattern.

Now I need to decide if I will start my science degree at Maynooth University at the end of September or if I will defer college for a year. If I am to start college at the end of September I would love if Retronix Semiconductor would consider giving me part-time work at the weekends.

I am very appreciative of Retronix Semiconductor for giving me my first work experience in a high-volume manufacturing technical industrial site. It has been a very positive experience and I have learned a lot.
